Wilma Kelly Liles
Hello, welcome
to my web site. I am a native of Shawnee Mission, Kansas. My ancestors came from Ireland to America in the early 1700’s and after helping to establish the city of Springfield, Illinois, eventually homesteaded in southeastern Kansas. With an
extensive musical background from
these ancestors, I followed the family tradition and was classically trained on piano with 15 years of private lessons, plus nine years of violin and four years of viola.
I have played violin and viola in several local civic orchestras over the past 30
years.
I hold a B.A. in English Literature from Avila College. In
1996,
I became very interested in the lever harp and proceeded to learn the instrument.
Since that time, I have become a Certified Therapeutic Harp
Practitioner with
credentials earned from the International Harp Therapy Program.
At this time, I serve as President of Harpers of the Prairie, a chapter of the International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen. The society is designed to foster knowledge and interest in the lever/folk harp. This group meets regularly alternating between Topeka, Ks. and Kansas City, Mo. A club recital is held every summer and the group performs for area events.
I also am a member of the Lyra Chapter of the American Harp Society.
As a dealer for
Rick Rubarth’s Rharps, I offer
his Merlin 35 string harp for sale. In addition, I carry a
23 string lap harp made by Highland
Harps. I have rental harps available for beginning students.
An experienced private instructor,
I have taught piano and violin for many years and have been teaching harp for
eight years.
I conduct a harp ensemble that meets once a month at Hume Music in Lawrence, Kansas. The ensemble plays at various local
events.
